The concept of this house stems from the pre-existing structure. Although it is a new construction project, the land holds the remnants of what was once the original construction of a single-family home: a basement and the perimeter of a ground floor without a roof.
The client’s requirements were to build a ground floor and a first floor, and the concept of the project is based on reutilizing the existing structure, maintaining the stone walls, and differentiating the extension through more contemporary materials and construction techniques. In this way, a clear separation between the past and the present is created.
Additionally, in the modifications to the ground floor, all new openings or interventions are clad in Corten steel, as it did not make sense to modify them with stone, given that it was not the original stone.
The result is a modern yet rustic home that respects the origin of the building and meets the client’s needs.
